Six UO students, through the Environmental Leadership Program, have spent the spring volunteering with the wetland education program. They will help families answer questions like, "Why are wetlands important?" "How does pollination work?" and "Why are some plants considered weeds?" These are just some of the questions that will be answered through a series of 45 minute-long activities and games for kids of all ages and their parents. Participants can join in as many activities as they would like. For a schedule of programs & registration call Holly McRae at 683-6494.

The Mulkey Cemetery traditionally hosts a series of workday weekends in the spring and fall. We’ve scheduled three workday weekends for this May: the 5th and 6th, the 19th and 20th, and the 26th and 27th. Workdays are a great opportunity to get outdoors, meet new people, do some gardening, and get the Mulkey looking good for Memorial Day. Don’t forget gloves, a hat, and sturdy shoes! The Mulkey Cemetery is a nonprofit, community-based historic cemetery located at 3335 S. Lambert Street in west Eugene. For directions or more information about the cemetery, visit our web site at http://www.mulkeycemetery.org.

Each year on Memorial Day, many of our cemetery families and neighbors visit the Mulkey to decorate graves and pay their respects. This year, Memorial Day falls on May 28, and we’ve arranged for two special musical performances. At 11 a.m., we’ll welcome bagpiper Lynne Jones. Ms. Jones loves piping and has played at festivals and events throughout Oregon. At noon, we’ll be joined by the Hammered Brass Quintet, a Eugene-based ensemble.
