The freezing cold weather this past week is a good test to see if you were prepared for a disaster. Were you?
 
If you were unlucky enough to have your pipes freeze, were you at least prepared enough that you had drinking water?
 
In the single-digit overnight lows, were you able to keep warm?
 
Did you have enough food in the house that you didn't have to brave the icy streets Friday and Saturday?
 
If you answered "no" to any of these questions, you might want to add one more resolution to your New Year's list: Beginning in 2010, I will do whatever it takes to no longer be a victim.
